We are proud to announce that Volterra was awarded 1st Runner-Up at Techfest Vietnam 2025, Vietnam’s largest national innovation and startup festival. This milestone marks a powerful validation of our mission: using AI, renewable energy, and advanced energy optimization to make EV charging more affordable, scalable, and sustainable for Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

In addition to competing in the National Innovative Technopreneur Contest, Volterra also participated in the exhibition zone at Techfest Vietnam 2025, where we showcased our AI-driven solutions for EV charging infrastructure. The exhibition provided valuable opportunities to engage directly with investors, industry partners, policymakers, and the public, sparking in-depth discussions around electricity costs, renewable energy integration, and the scalability of smart charging infrastructure in Vietnam.

About Techfest Vietnam 2025

Techfest Vietnam is the country’s largest annual innovation and startup festival, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, bringing together startups, investors, policymakers, corporates, and research institutions across Vietnam and beyond.

The 2025 edition marked a major evolution of Techfest, transforming it from a traditional conference into a city-wide innovation festival held in Hanoi’s Hoàn Kiếm pedestrian area. With the theme “Green Growth and Digital Transformation”, Techfest Vietnam 2025 placed strong emphasis on solutions addressing national challenges in sustainability, energy transition, and technology-driven growth.

At the heart of the festival is the National Innovative Technopreneur Contest, where high-potential startups are rigorously evaluated on innovation, feasibility, scalability, and real-world impact. Being recognized among the top teams at Techfest represents not only technical excellence, but also strong alignment with Vietnam’s long-term development priorities.

The Challenge: EV Growth Meets a Power Constraint

Vietnam is entering a critical phase of its electric vehicle transition. While EV adoption is accelerating, the energy system is under increasing pressure:

  • 3.5 million people may face electricity shortages each year
  • Vietnamese households collectively pay USD 32 million more in electricity annually
  • EV charging already contributes to 60% of total emissions within the EV ecosystem
  • Electricity demand from EV charging is rising beyond the projections of Power Development Plan VIII

At the same time, Vietnam has committed to Net Zero by 2050. Without rethinking how EV charging infrastructure is powered and managed, the transition risks becoming financially unsustainable for operators, expensive for users, and fragile for the grid.

This is not just an operational issue. It is a systemic bottleneck that could make or break the EV transition.

Volterra’s Solution: AI-Driven Energy Management for EV Charging

At Techfest, we presented Volterra’s end-to-end SaaS solution, integrating:

  • AI optimization
  • Renewable energy (solar & wind)
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

At the core of our technology is EMAS, the Energy Management AI System.

EMAS continuously:

  • Collects real-time charging, energy, and pricing data
  • Predicts electricity demand and price fluctuations
  • Dynamically switches between grid power, renewables, and BESS
  • Balances load across multiple EVs to prevent overload
  • Simulates station design and investment outcomes before deployment using a digital twin system

Through AI-driven energy management integrating solar energy and battery storage, Volterra reduces electricity costs by up to 40%, improves charging operators’ profitability, and lowers emissions from EV charging at scale. Looking ahead, widespread deployment of green charging stations powered by Volterra could help reduce nearly 1.2 billion tons of CO₂ by 2050 while compensating up to 85% of projected power shortages, directly supporting Vietnam’s Net Zero commitment and a more resilient energy system.

What’s next for Volterra

Following Techfest, Volterra is:

  • Advancing discussions with investors and strategic partners
  • Expanding pilot deployments with charging infrastructure developers
  • Preparing for commercial rollout of EMAS at scale
  • Executing our strategy: win Vietnam first, then scale across Southeast Asia by standing on the shoulders of industry giants.
